All you do is:
1. use sharpies to draw out your art
2. use hydrogen peroxide and droplet to spread the ink however you please!
hint: (more hydrogen peroxide you use, the more it'll spread! start small...)
hint #2: (Also, some sharpies are called "stained" sharpies they don't spread but good for a baseline! in this project, I used both)
In Women's Discipleship class, we bonded over sharpies and hydrogen peroxide, I took some time and told my engagement story :)

How will washing the shirt effect it?
ReplyDeleteI would say wash it in cold water and tumble dry on low, when washing the for the first time wash alone just to make sure there isn't any color left over transferring onto other clothing! Let me know if you have any suggestions!
DeleteSo did you just spray the HP along the lines or did you brush it on & let it spread out from there? And did you layer your colors first, then use the HP? Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI just started out with small droplets and watched how far it would spread and then added more when i wanted it to color further (I didn't brush), and yes, the HP should be the last step! Thanks! :)

ReplyDeleteUse rubbing alcohol instead. It works much better.
DeleteWet the fabric first. The wetter the fabric the more it will spread.
ReplyDeleteWon't that make it more difficult to draw onto the fabric with the Sharpie, as the pen will soak up the moisture from the fabric and not let out as much ink?
DeleteDraw on dry fabric. Mist with water until damp, drop with HP

ReplyDeleteI love this, I've tried it before with alcohol instead of peroxide. Unfortunately though it washed right out. Any tips?

ReplyDeleteLove this project! But cannot find "stained" sharpies anywhere! I found stained pens but they were for furniture. I would really like to have some guidance on where to get them! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAmazon or any large craft store had the Stained Sharpies. They are as featured on the Sharpie website as they used to be. Art done with them on fabric is supposed to last better when washed. Thay having been said, they only come in 8 colors. There are many types of Sharpies now, but I am familiar with 3. The "permanent mrkers, office type (I tried them using the alcohol method over a year ago and they flat out wouldn't run and bleed, even using 91% alcohol, so I don't knwo what the problem was. There are also the oil-based Sharpies for using on the outside of mugs and such, but are not food-safe. The official site has some info on different kinds of Sharpies and some projects:

But they don't show any of the "bleed" type projects. You can actually get a lot of info by reading reviews and questions on Amazon listings too.
"stained" sharpies are sold for fabric painting. Not alcohol based. Good for adding definition with alcohol sharpies that disperse with droplets of alcohol.
DeleteI just typed in stained sharpies to amazon & an 8 pack came up. I'd guess you could get them at a fabric store.
